Despite the fact that Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, M.anifest, Joey B, Fuse ODG, Kojo Cue and Shaker, and MzVee are all in the race for the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Video of the Year, first-time nominee Kirani Ayat is not in doubt his ‘Guda’ video stands tall.
Ayat is positive he will shove off competition to win the prize if the VGMA organisers will stick to the category definition of what they said should be “the best video”.
In an interview with George Kwani on TV3’s New Day Monday, Ayat disclosed that a friend had told him there are no questions about him winning the category.
“Somebody told me that if they are looking for the best video like they said, it wouldn’t be debatable,” he told George Kwaning.
Ayat acknowledges there is a lot of competition in the category he finds himself in as a first-timer at the VGMAs but believes he has put in quite some substantial work which will make him stand out.
“If they’re going by the technical, like videography, directing, photography, cinematography, if they’re going by the technical bits of it, there is no debate,” he reiterated.
He however admits he will lose out if organisers decide to go for the most popular video, stating “I do not have as much fan base to support it”.
The Guda hitmaker also noted that it is not fair to always compare the Ghana music industry to that of Nigeria, arguing Nigeria has systems, numbers and structures that make the business grow as compared to Ghana.
But he is positive Ghana will gradually get there.
