World Speech Day is a day earmarked to celebrate speeches and speech making, through unexpected voices everywhere in the world.
This year’s 2020 world speech day was held on Friday, 13th March, 2020 at Christ the King Church, St Maria Hall in Cantonments to promote SDG13, under the theme “The Youth Essential Voices In Climate Change” .
The event seeks to listen to the transformational stories and actions that will bring about a safer and more sustainable environment for the enjoyment of both present and future generations.
Hence giving more youth the platform to share their thoughts on this global issue pertaining to SDG13
Event Coordinator for World speech day in Accra, Mrs. Patricia Dzifa Mensah-Larkai noted that the event added to the call to protect and preserve our environment, especially through the implementation of the key action points highlighted in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, UNFCCC and the 12 thematic areas actively known for implementation by citizens, industry and government.
Key note speaker, Odelia Ntiamoah explained that It is strongly believed that giving “unexpected voices” the chance to be heard, enables all to find one more solution, discover one more way to solving our societal problems.
It also gives an opportunity for the local and global audiences to hear what others are doing from their little corner, to make the world a better place for all.
Moreover, Ghana is faced with perennial flooding and the roads heavily inhabited by vehicles that emit high levels of carbon daily.
Panel moderator, Eyram Bashan, highlighted that creating more awareness about SDG13 will help us all become active citizens, contributing our quota in resolving some of these challenging global issues that are now closer to home than ever thought.
Some students of Wisdom Way Academy and CEJOSE Wisdom International School from Gbetsele were in attendance.
