Several traders were stranded at the Beposo Market Friday morning following the ban of market days at Beposo and Abuesi.
The Shama District Assembly on Thursday announced its decision to suspend the weekly market days effective Friday, May 29 until Tuesday, June 3.
Fridays and Tuesdays are special market days at Beposo and Abuesi but the decision to place a ban on these days was necessitated by the non-compliance to the adherence of the safety and health protocols especially with the compulsory wearing of nose masks and social distancing by the traders.
A team of security personnel was stationed at the market to prevent recalcitrant traders from disregarding the directive.
Some traders were, however, spotted in the market on Friday morning with their wares to trade as they remonstrated the announcement to suspend trade on Friday came late.
Those with perishable goods such as tomato, watermelon and others had to appeal to the authorities to allow them sell their wares.
Assemblymember for Beposo Electoral Area Isaac Boakye Adani, in an interaction with Connect FM, disclosed that authorities agreed to allow traders with perishable goods to sell their wares by the roadside. “The announcement was on a short notice but traders with perishable goods were allowed to sell their wares following several appeals to authorities,” he said.
The Beposo and Abuesi markets are part of several markets which have been closed down in the Western Region as part of measures to control the spread of the Covid-19.
