Black Queens head coach Mercy Tagoe-Quarcoo, in an interview with TV3, has said she is disappointed that the African Women Cup of Nations has been postponed.
However, she does not blame CAF for the decision because she believes it was made to keep footballers from harm’s way.
“[It is] very disappointing, but you can’t blame anybody; apparently, everybody is protecting him or herself from contracting the virus, so I believe CAF and FIFA are also doing same; they are trying to protect the football fraternity.”
Speaking on the postponement of the AWCON 2020 to 2022, she said the decision was imperative.
“It was neither a good or bad decision, because other countries are playing and others are about to start, and I believe countries differ, cultural, perception, the way we see things are different but I believe CAF is doing something without us knowing.
“CAF is for football and CAF will not let football die because of Covid-19. I believe they are trying to strategize and football will bounce back.”
Ghana failed to qualify for the knock-out stage in the last tournament but were hopeful to qualify for AWCON 2020, and make a difference.
