The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has announced new dates for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
The final qualifiers were to be played in May but were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Ghana’s U-17 women’s side, the Black Maidens, were scheduled to face Nigeria’s U-17 side in the final round of the qualifiers before Covid-19 hit the continent.
The Maidens thrashed Liberia 10-0 on aggregate whilst Nigeria beat Guinea’s U-17 side 11-2 on aggregate to make it to the final round.
Since the U-17 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to be held from February 17 to March 7, 2021, the following dates have been confirmed to complete the qualifiers in Africa:
1st Leg: 30, 31/Oct. or 1/Nov./2020
2nd Leg: 19, 20 or 21/Nov./2020
Africa has three slots for the tournament with Uganda set to battle Cameroon, Ghana taking on Nigeria and South Africa locking horns with Morocco for places in India.
The tournament was supposed to take place in November but was re-scheduled due to the global pandemic.
The 2021 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be the 7th edition of the U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The biennial international women’s youth football tournament will mark the first time that India has hosted a FIFA women’s football tournament.
