The New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency, Abu Kamara, who died in a car accident Friday night, has been buried in his hometown of Larbanga.
Mr. Abu Kamara was traveling from his constituency after he had inspected the construction of some speed ramps at Ntereso on Friday night when the accident happened at Datoyili near Tamale.
The accident happened around 10:00 pm.
Information gathered by 3news.com indicated that the car in which the PC was traveling rammed into an articulated truck.
Three of the five occupants in the politician’s car died on the spot while the other two are reported to be receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
All three deceased have since been buried in accordance with Islamic custom.
Sympathisers of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other political parties converged at Larbanga to bid him farewell.
Speaking exclusively to 3news.com after the burial, the Savannah Regional Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Iddrisu, described the late Abu Kamara as a true party man.
He said his death is a big blow to the party in the Constituency and the Region.
“His death is definitely a big blow to us as a party because he was ready to take the Constituency from the NDC for us but here we are mourning him.”
But will the NPP appoint his wife as a successor?
“The party has not taken a decision on that yet but I don’t see that as a possibility. However, anything can happen.”
Nuhu Seidu Benasco is the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Parliamentary Candidate for the NPP and he told 3news.com his late colleague was an advisor to him and others.
He said the news of his demise was shocking and unbearable that he couldn’t control himself.
The third-day funeral rite is slated for Monday, October 19.
