Black Queens also triumph over North African counterparts Morocco
The senior women’s team, Black Queens, hosted their counterparts from Morocco hours after the Black Princesses thrashed their colleagues from same country, Morocco, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The match took off with electrifying performances from the blast of the whistle to the very end as both teams evenly displayed their prowess on the field of play.
Ghana through some superb strings of passes in their midfield exposed the Moroccan defense by finding their arrow head Sandra Owusu Ansah, who struck past the visitors’ goalkeeper to put Ghana in the lead.
The Moroccans reacted pretty quickly to show some strength to what the Black Queens thought was their weakness but could only get a few shot on targets from that.
After some minutes of sluggish displays by the Ghanaians right after their goal, they found their pieces together later and urged themselves on to finding their second in the match through the same scorer.
The North Africans’ series of attempt to at least get a consolation before the end of the first half could only remind their fans of the presence of their attackers on the pitch but not to change anything about the score line.
The opening 45 minutes ended with the Black Queens leading 2 – 0.
The second 45 minutes of the game was more open than the first as both teams created some good chances but neither side converted any.
In an attempt to get more goals from either side, both coaches threw their cards in to reinforce their respective teams with fresh bloods but that was only enough to maximize the tempo of the game, increased the flow of the game (turning attacks into defense) and intensified the physical battle between the two sides.
Interestingly, none of these positive changes to the second 45 minutes could prevent the half from ending barren.
At the blast of the final whistle, the Black Queens of Ghana scored twice as the Moroccans were left chasing their own shadows.
After the end of the game, awards were presented to outstanding players and teams for their performances in the double legged international friendly by the Ghana Football Association President, Mr. Kurt Okraku.
Mukarama Abdullah won the Outstanding Player in her division, the senior Moroccan female team won the Fair Play Award of the Day.
Juliet Acheampong was adjudged the Most Outstanding Player in the Queens team.
Black Queens Head Coach Mercy Tagoe attributed her team’s great performance to hard work and commitment to her job.
“This is a booster for the national team. So I think, so far so good. Though we are not yet there. We are trying our best. Not quite long that we had AFCON at this same venue, Ghana was hosting the AFCON but unfortunately, we couldn’t not even go past the preliminary stage. We needed to redeem the image. The few people who are around have seen what Black Queens is made of. My players were using experience to at least redeem the image and we did exactly that. This is an international game we had. I am very happy and my girls are also happy.”
A five-star performer in the match, Linda Eshun, was happy about the outcome of the day and linked the day’s success to determination to win.
