Roberto Carlos was not better than me – Adjah Tetteh
Former Hearts of Oak star, Lawrence Adjah Tetteh has compared himself to Brazil and Real Madrid star, Roberto Carlos – stating that he was a better player during his playing days than him.
Adjah Tetteh was a vital figure in the Hearts of Oak side that won the CAF Champions league for the first time and finished the season with the treble.
That win meant the Phobians should have played in the FIFA Club World Cup but it was cancelled that year following the collapse of FIFA’s marketing partner IS.
Tetteh stressed that his Hearts side would have made a great impact in the competition if it had gone ahead. “Once the competition did not take place each of the qualified teams would make a case of winning it. So I believe we could’ve won it.”
He said on Accra based radio station Bryt FM.
“I saw the teams that had qualified at the time and their players. I can make a case for myself that Roberto Carlos of Real Madrid at the time was not better than me.”
Careers of retired players are usually told with a tinge of romantic nostalgia and hagiography but Tetteh strongly believes that he had the skillset to outwit the Brazilian on the field of play.
“Not playing in the Club World Cup dumped most of the players’ chances. A team brought an offer to sign me so I decided to use the tournament to showcase myself better to the club in order to increase me value,” he said.
