The Right Honorable Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, has declared that the house is going to embark on some stringent measures in order to curb the high spread of COVID-19 cases in the country by cutting down on the number of Members of Parliament(MPs) to ? of the 275 needed to form a quorum at the house.
The rest joining sittings via virtual platforms from their offices, he said.
“Because of the COVID, I think we’re going to take some measures, we will be needing about ? of members on the floor(parliament), the rest you have to do virtual parliament, you have to be in your offices to observe proceedings, as and when necessary, appear to contribute, but we’re not going to do this kind of sitting(full quorum) again” he declared.
He also declared that, from next week, parliament is going to use the tents erected in front of the house in order to make way for fumigation exercise in the chamber.
“So please honorable members co-operate with the parliamentary service to get this thing done” he entreated.
