The Ghana Football Association at their Secretariat on Wednesday morning launched the new Juvenile Football competition starting from the weekend of May 7th, 8th, and 9th accross all regions.
Juvenile Football which in time past was the backbone of Football in Ghana tumbled but the current Ghana Football Association have reintroduced it in other to unearth talent from the grassroots level.
The event saw key dignitaries including Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Edwin Okraku, Former Black Stars winger Laryea Kingston, Deputy Head of Operations from the Spanish Embassy, Raphael Rodriguez, various RFA Chairs and some club owners.
The GFA through its President Kurt Okraku outlined key policies for the upcoming Juvenile Football season which includes playing penalty shootouts for games that ends in a draw.
“For so many years, Ghana has suffered a lot from our inability to score at the penalty spot when games end in stalemates. The Black Stars we remember Senegal 92 (which is) just one of the key examples,” he said.
“So beginning this season, all juvenile games that end in stalemates will be decided via penalty shootouts. So what that means is that when the game ends in 0-0, 1-1 or 3-3 we’ll resort to the penalty shootout to decide the winner.
“The winner gets 2 points while the losing team get one,” he concluded.
Other policies includes four regions playing games behind closed doors, the four regions include; Western, Eastern, Ashanti and Greater Accra Region.
The RFA’s were urged to use the the GFA’s match center strategies and provide the various Covid-19 safety protocols.
Best players and top scorers from all regions will be given shopping vouchers and mobile phones respectively and also a call up to the National U-17 for trials.
