First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has presented awards to two Media General staff, Grace Hammoah Asare and Wendy Laryea for their excellent reportage on staying safe in the height of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The two were awarded under the Merck Foundation’s Stay at Home Media Awards to raise awareness about coronavirus.
The theme of the awards was ‘Raising Awareness on How to Stay Safe and Keep Physically and Mentally Healthy during Coronavirus Lockdown’ with the aim to separate facts from myths and misconceptions.
The two female journalists beat competition from other journalists from across Africa to emerge winners in the multimedia category.
First lady, Rebecca Akuffo Addo charged the duo, and other winners, to keep impacting their societies through their reports.
Grace Hammoah Asare, who placed first, is expected to receive $500 while Wendy Laryea takes home $300 for placing second.
“Anytime you receive an award it means someone has seen what you are doing and others are also going to keep close watch on you, to verify whether you deserved it. So this award will encourage me to do more in my field as well as in impacting the society.
They believe the awards will spur them on to do more in their fields of reporting.
“As a journalist I believe journalism is my tool for social change. I believe this award will spur me on to do more impactful stories to affect society positively”
Journalists from other media were also awarded.
