General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) John Boadu has denied undertaking mining in any form in Ghana as his livelihood.
He said neither has he any interests in the industry.
He has, therefore, asked the Operation Halt team to destroy any equipment used by any individuals or group illegally mining in his name.
Speaking on Accra-based Peace FM on Tuesday, May 25, John Boadu said mining appears to have taken a negative connotation in Ghana to the extent that those who are legally undertaking the activity are condemned.
John Boadu said mining provides genuine employment for many in the country.
But he stressed that what government is fighting is illegal mining and those carrying it out on water bodies.
The NPP General Secretary, therefore, asked Ghanaians to support government’s renewed fight to stop the menace.
