Ghanaian sprinter Benjamin Azamati did not qualify for the men’s 100m semi-final after finishing 4th in his heat on Saturday morning.
Azamati clocked 10.13 seconds in Heat 7, and it was not enough to secure him a place in the next round of the competition.
Ghanaians, having followed closely the exploits of Azamati this year, including running 9.97 seconds to smash the national record, were confident of the 23-year-old making a big impression on his Olympic Games debut.
He has apologised to Ghanaians.
Azamati was in lane 6, next to Jamaican Yohan Blake who was surprisingly beaten by Australian Rohan Browning, with Chijindu Ujah of Great Britain coming third.
Azamati’s Olympic dream is, however, not over as he is a key member of Team Ghana’s 4x100m relay team.
