Dr Tony Aubynn, chairman of the Black Galaxies management committee, has stated that the Ghana Football Association has not paid any winning bonuses to the players as has been speculated.
The team advanced to the final round of the 2022 African Nations Championship qualifiers after defeating Benin 4-0 on aggregate. They will now face Nigeria for a place in Algeria.
“To the best of my knowledge, the rumour that the FA paid the Black Galaxies $2500 as a winning bonus is not true; I have no knowledge of it,” Dr Aubynn told Akoma Sports.
“The period we find ourselves is not about paying winning bonuses but rather is about Ghana beating Nigeria in the next round.”
He, however, stated there will be a huge package for the playing team if they secure qualification.
“Let me say that when that is achieved, a huge package will be given to the team.”
The first leg will be held in Ghana in late August, with the return leg in Nigeria in September.
Ghana are looking to return to the championship after missing the last three editions. Black Galaxies finished second twice in the first three editions.
