Media Executive Rudy Kwakye has challenged upcoming artistes to put themselves out there. The founder of Muse Media Networks also tasked every talent to put their best foot forward and be ready to take charge of every opportunity. He made these submissions at the Showbiz Conference happening now on TV3 premises.
As a long-standing member of the media industry, Rudy Kwakye revealed that the existence of supposed gatekeepers who make and unmake careers is non-existent. He argues that once a talent market’s itself well enough, every outlet would line up to benefit from their association.
“I am here to tell you that is not true (the gatekeeping syndrome). The folks at TV3 are powerful people because they have microphones. But I can tell you that I have never made a talent rooster or lineup because I got a call from them. That (lineup) would be decided on certain merit or scale. Remember when they put you up for a show, they have probably seen that you would be more beneficial to them putting you on TV rather than some guy making a call for you. So that supposed gatekeeper is really just somebody that just introduces you.”
Rudy gave a scenario where he explained that it is not his job to sell you to industry stakeholders after paving for the initial introduction. The rest of the work depends on your talent and business.
“You want to talk to Richie? If you reach me, I will give you Richie’s number. I will probably call and say, hey, Richie, this person wants to talk to you. My call may get you five mins, but you have to sell yourself to him. Don’t make it my problem that I took you to Richie, so I have to deliver Richie,” Rudy concluded.
