Otto Addo is relishing the headache brought by increased competition in the Black Stars as they prepare for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Otto Addo was impressed by the performance of the players who appeared in Thursday’s pre-World Cup friendly victory over Switzerland in Abu Dhabi.
Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Salis Abdul Samed, and Elisha Owusu were given their first starts by the former Ghana international, while Lawrence Ati-Zigi started in goal.
The starting line up also included Andre Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, Daniel Amartey, Baba Rahman, Tariq Lamptey, Inaki Williams, and Jordan Ayew.
He brought on Daniel-Kofi Kyereh Kamal Sowah, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Antoine Semenyo, Joseph Aidoo, and Alidu Seidu in the second half, leaving out Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, and Alexander Djiku, but the Black Stars beat the Swiss 2-0 and will be confident heading into the World Cup in Qatar.
“We have a good 26-man squad and everybody showed what they can today and I’m happy for that. I’m happy that we have quite an equal squad and it will not be easy for me as a coach, of course, to choose who would play against [Portugal but this is how I want it. It is better than having eleven players and then afterwards what comes in is not so good,” Otto Addo told reporters after the game.
“I think everybody saw that we have a well-balanced team and a lot of possibilities and with tournaments like this… it is very very important to have like 26 reliable players. I think a lot of players showed that we can count on them.”
The Black Stars will arrive in Qatar on Friday for the final leg of preparations ahead of their November 24 opener against Portugal.
