Airtel Africa and Kenya Airways have teamed up to drive a broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in Africa.
The collaboration will allow the two companies to drive a common CSR agenda that brings positive transformation to people on the continent.
The three-year partnership is also expected to help Airtel and Kenya Airways implement key areas of their CSR agenda aimed at overcoming contemporary socio-economic challenges in Africa. The areas of synergy focus on education and the environment -- two areas that are part of the companies’ CSR initiatives on the continent.
Christian de Faria, Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Africa said: “Beyond our growing business relationship, this is an excellent partnership for two companies that are already bringing positive and long-lasting transformation to communities across Africa. We identified education as one of our focus areas because there are important synergies where we can broaden size and scale to maximise benefits to the communities where we operate.â€Â
Dr. Titus Naikuni, Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and Chief Executive, said: “This partnership will not only take advantage of our shared footprint; it also deepens our joint social-investment capabilities in communities in Africa. We are both giving back to the communities across Africa by investing in educational infrastructure, which is key to sustainable youth development. This new partnership brings an interesting dimension to our CSR approach through sustainable collaborationâ€Â.
Whereas Airtel is in 17 markets in Africa, Kenya Airways flies to 46 destinations on the continent, an indicator of the scale of reach across the region.
Both Airtel and Kenya Airways are already running elaborate programmes on education and environment in Africa.
On the environment, both organisations are driving sustainable environmental programmes aimed at reducing fossil-fuel emissions associated with telecommunication towers and air travel. Airtel has been championing a reduction in the use of diesel used to power telecommunication towers through the use of renewable energy sources such as solar.
Kenya Airways’ acquisition of the new fleet of Dreamliners -- recognised as one of the most fuel-efficient, wide-body aircraft in operation today -- will help reduce its carbon-emission footprint.
…Kenya Airways relocates to Stanbic Heights
In a related development, Kenya Airways’ administration and ticketing offices have been relocated from the Silver Bird Towers at Airport City in Accra to the 5th floor of Stanbic Heights at the Airport City enclave in Accra.
The new spacious office, according to the airline, is to enable the airline better serve its clients in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
The airline in a statement said: “Kenya Airways wishes to express its profound gratitude and sincere thanks for your loyal and continued patronage, and all the support and cooperation you have given us over the years.
“With our business growing, there was a need for us to provide you with bigger space and a higher quality of service. Our main telephone number and email addresses remain unchanged,†the statement added.
