The chiefs and people of Akoefe in the Ho municipality of the Volta Region are demanding the completion of an 18-unit classroom facility which was started in 2016 but came to an “abrupt end in 2017.
The chiefs say all efforts to get explanation for the sudden stop in the construction of the school meant to serve as a technical vocational education and training has proved futile.
“When we went to the municipal education office to find out but they said they did not know about it. when we also went to the regional education office, they also said they knew nothing about it” Togbe Diko IV of Akoefe told a Social Audit Committee.
The Akoefe community has a population of 8,970 with six Primary schools and five Junior High Schools but does not have a Senior High School.
The contract, according to assemblyman for the area, Joshua Buatsi, was awarded to Anderlutte Ent. who was to construct the 18 unit classroom block which has been abandoned.
The accommodation facility has also been abandoned at foundation level.
Calls to Anderlute Ent. for clarity on the why the project has been abandoned did not go through.
The leadership of the Akoefe community wants the government to revisit the Akoefe technical school project to rekindle the hope of the children for a profitable livelihood through technical vocational education and training.
