Road users who ply the under-construction Airport Roundabout to Buokrom stretch in Kumasi have lamented the lack of progress on the project since President Nana Akufo-Addo visited the place in September.
People in the area claimed contractors only began working on the road ahead of the President’s visit to the Ashanti Region.
But according to them, the contractors left three days after the President’s visit.
“It is the same as it was. Nothing is going on. Everything is at a standstill. Nothing is happening,” one man told Citi News.
Another road user said: “When the President came here, we saw them busy working on this road but three days after the government left, these people have stopped work. they don’t work on the road anymore since the President left.”
“When it rains you can’t even ply the roads,” he added.
The Airport Roundabout to Buokrom stretch is known as one of the busiest in the Ashanti Region as it serves as a link to Kenyasi, Buokom, Antoa and Bonwire.
The construction work on the road began in May 2018.
In his comments on the road projects during his visit to the Region, President Akufo-Addo tasked the various contractors working on several roads and infrastructure projects in the Kumasi Metropolis to ensure they are completed on time.
Visiting several project sites on Wednesday, September 10, 2019, The President said the timely completion of these road projects will enhance the status of Kumasi as Ghana’s second-largest city and also establish it as a major and strategic business destination in West Africa.
