The Center for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Council has appointed Dr. Ebenezer D.O. Ansa as the new Director of its Animal Research Institute.
Until his appointment, he served as Head of the Hydrobiology Laboratory, Acting Head of the Biomedical and Public Health Unit and Head of the Environmental Biology and Health of the CSIR-Water Research Institute (WRI).
He also served as Chair of the Internal Generated Funds Committee, Chair of the Editorial Committee and member of the Management Board Sub-Committee on Commercialization of the WRI. He also acted as Director of WRI.
Speaking at his induction, he said his vision is to increase productivity through teamwork while taking on an aggressive marketing drive to improve the visibility of the CSIR-Animal Research Institute.
Dr. Ansa announced that the CSIR-Animal Research Institute could make a significant contribution to the Government of Ghana rearing for food and jobs programme and also help make it a success since the Institute has developed techniques for sexing guinea fowl and diagnostic technology for early and rapid detection of disease.
He further stated that the Institute could supply hybrid breeds of Sahelian and West African Dwarf sheep and goats, which are bigger and more disease resistant.
Profile of the new CSIR-ARI Director
Dr. Ebenezer D. O. Ansa is a Principal Research Scientist in the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) having worked in the organization for over 18 years.
He holds a PhD in Environmental Biotechnology & Engineering from the UNESCO –IHE Institute for Water Education and Wageningen University, the Netherlands and a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) degree in Applied Parasitology form the University of Ghana.
He also holds a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
Dr. Ansa has served on several national technical committees such as the National Raw Water Quality Committee, the National Ministerial Task Team on Algal Toxin in drinking water, National Wastewater Management Committee amongst others.
He has also served on various International Technical Committees including Technical Advisor for the Ecological Sequestration Trust on Sanitation Resilience, Belgium, member of the International Water Association-UK specialist Groups on Health-related Water microbiology and Wastewater systems; Consultant on water Resources Management for United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources and Advisor to the Government of Ghana on Biological Water Control.
His main expertise is in the optimization of ecologically friendly technologies for converting waste into reusable bioresource.
He is an external examiner for the Graduate Programme of the Department of Civil Engineering, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and reviews for the KNUST, Elsevier, Springer, International Water Association and Taylor and Francis Journals.
He has led several donor-funded and consultancies which have had a significant and positive impact on communities.
These include Sustainable Land and Water Management Project, Water Quality Assessment, UNICEF Water Safety Plan Evaluation among others.
He has 73 publications in books, book chapters, peer-reviewed journals, conference articles and technical reports.
