The Member of Parliament for Krachie Nchumuru, John Dabire is unhappy with the way society treats issues that relate to persons with disabilities, especially blind individuals.
Speaking at the White Cane Safety Day Celebration in Accra on Thursday, John Dabire complained about the poor turnout of the citizenry at the ceremony.
“I am rather a little bit disturbed in the sense that I was expecting many more people than this and not only children from school for the blind but other people from the society because this celebration is not just for blind people but everyone,” he lamented.
He also advocated for public sensitization most especially in governmental agencies.
“We need to continue to improve advocacy which is very important. We must continue to meet the policymakers and make them aware of the relevance of treating persons with disabilities in the community well,” he said.
Kwabre East MP calls for the inclusion of PWDs in social activities
Similar calls have been made by several individuals and groups including the Member of Parliament for Kwabre East Constituency.
During fun games in the constituency, Francisca Oteng Mensah made a passionate call to members of the public and the general Ghanaian society to stop avoiding Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
According to her, the continuous stigmatization of such persons will affect them psychologically and physically.
