Accra, Nov. 13, GNA - The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) joined the management, lecturers and students of the University of Professional Studies – Accra (UPSA) to mark this year’s World Quality Day (WQD).
The WQD is an annual event celebrated on the second Thursday of November to encourage reflection and dialogue on the role that quality and management play in the daily lives of people.
The Director-General of the GSA Professor Alexander Dodoo led some senior officials of the Authority to grace the occasion, which was organised by the UPSA’s School of Graduate Studies, on the theme: “The role of Leadership in Building Trust-based Quality Culture.”
The GSA team included Mr. Kofi Nagetey, Deputy Director-General (Conformity Assessment), Dr. Kofi Amponsah-Bediako, Director of Corporate Communications, as well as Mrs. Docea Quashie Asiedu, Director of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation.
The celebration also assembled experts and professionals on standards and quality systems management including the Director-General of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Delese Mimi Darko.
Professor Dodoo, in a brief remark, said the GSA would not relent in its fight against sub-standard products in the country and urged the students to use their education to make a difference in the country.
“But as for the students, I will be watching out for you. I will be watching out for you to be men and women who will bring change in our lifetime,” he emphasized.
In a keynote address, Mr. Nagetey, noted that, the GSA, being the national statutory body in charge of standardisation, conformity assessment and metrology has worked tirelessly to promote the quality culture in the country.
He said the GSA’s standards development process, products and systems certification and metrology activities are all geared towards the promotion the quality and enhance the competitiveness of Ghanaian companies.
“We at the GSA will be very happy to work with the University to ensure that quality issues and indeed standard issues are taught right in the University,” he noted.
