Tamale, Feb. 23, GNA - Polls have opened in the Northern, Savannah and North East regions for the presidential primaries of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to elect its flagbearer for the 2020 presidential elections.
A total of 25,432 delegates comprising nine branch executives each from all 2,688 polling stations in all the 31 constituencies in the three regions have been cleared to vote in the elections being held simultaneously across the country.
These include regional and constituency executives and the Party’s Members of Parliament.
The polls are taking place at designated centres in each constituency in the regions.
When the Ghana News Agency visited the UDS Conference Centre in the Tamale South Constituency at 0710 hours, delegates had come in their numbers and were going through the process smoothly to cast their ballots.
A total of 1,422 delegates are expected to vote at this centre.
Mr Andani Issah Natogmah, the Tamale District Electoral Officer, said the process was going on smoothly and did not expect any challenges.
The process also started at Kulikuli School in the Tamale Central Constituency where, as at 0820 hours, 85 delegates out of the total 1,267 had cast their ballots.
Mr Anabila Atinga, the Presiding Officer at the Kulikuli School Polling Centre, said the centre had not encountered any challenges and the process was going on smoothly.
The GNA observed a high police presence at the polling centres.
