The annual career clinic for tertiary students dubbed “Bridge the Gap Internships” is geared towards solving issues on the increasing retrenchment rate in the industry, the widened gap between academia and world of work and the ever changing strategies adopted by companies in employing workers.
A statement signed by Revina Acheampong, Public Relations (PR) Consultant at L'AINE Services and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the career enhancing programme formed part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibilities.
It was also part of the company’s numerous activities lined up for the celebration of its 25th anniversary.
The clinic was attended by students, entrepreneurs, job seekers and business executives, amongst others, the statement said.
Participants were taken through several skill sharpening sessions including speed interviews, Mentoring, Curriculum Vitae (CV) Reviews, as well as job vacancies, it added.
It further stated that participants were given internship opportunities across various industries, as well as taken through aptitude tests, interviews and career presentations by various heads of departments of L’AINE Services Limited.
The statement said Mrs Hadassah Habiba Nantuo, the HR Head for Northern Development Authority, encouraged participants of the career clinic to invest in their personal development in order to be useful to their organisations and the communities within which they lived.
It further stated that L’AINE Services’ readiness in contributing its quota to ensuring that the right candidates were developed for the job market.
“One way to bridge the gap between industry and academia is for organisations to partner with tertiary institutions to develop industry-relevant modules for teaching,” it said.
The statement also urged the students to know their Values, Interests, Passion, Strengths (VIPS) in order to develop their career.
Participants, it said applauded L’AINE Services by expressing satisfaction over the programme and asked for more of such programmes to be extended to other parts of the country to enhance the development of the human resource.
Present to help with the sessions and to serve as resource persons included Mrs Hadassah Habiba Nantuo, the HR Head for Northern Development Authority, Mrs Grace Larbi, GILLBT and Mr David Laar, the Agency Representative for L’AINE Services, the statement said.
Others included Mr James Laar, Acting Chief Executive for L’AINE Services, Mr Edem Damanka, Senior HR Consultant of L’AINE Services, Mr Jonas Manu-Essamoah, Recruiting and HR Coordinator of Fly Zipnet, as well as representatives from Databank, it added.
