Accra, Nov. 7, GNA - The Ghana Civil Service has begun its 2019 service week with a call on Ghanaians to visit the various ministries, departments and agencies to know more about their core mandate.
Dubbed; “Improving Service Delivery to Promote Ghana beyond Aid”, the celebration is to provide a platform for the Civil Service to engage with the public and private sector, and identify potential areas of collaboration for job creation, prosperity and equal opportunity for all Ghanaians.
Mrs Elizabeth Obeng Yeboah, Deputy Director, Office of the Head of Civil Service, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
She said the service week also sought to recognize the strategic importance of employees of the Civil Service to national development, and to honour their dedicated and selfless service to the public and citizens.
To achieve that, each of the ministries mounted tents and displayed books, paraphernalia, brochures among others to explain their activities to patrons.
All ministries and departments also held National Health Insurance card registration and renewal for civil servants.
She said the PNDC Law 327(7) of 1993 mandated the Office of the Head of Civil Service to play an oversight role of all civil servants to ensure effective implementation of government policies and plans.
It was also in charge of advising the government on employment and policy formulation within the service.
Mrs Obeng-Yeboah said there were 36 departments under the Civil Service with about 13,000 workers and therefore the whole idea of the open day would enable the citizens have a deeper understanding of their work functions.
She therefore urged all civil servants to ensure that the purpose of the celebrations was achieved.
Mrs Cynthia Morrison, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, also speaking with the GNA on the significance of the celebration urged all civil servants to get a National Health Insurance Card, adding that even if they do not use it they could be contributing to giving care to others.
The Civil Service would on Thursday 7th November 2019, hold a clean-up exercise at the Ministries Agencies and Departments and Health Screening for Civil Servants.
On Friday, 8th November 2019, there would be a thanksgiving prayer for Christians and Muslims as well as the hosting of the Civil Service Awards Night.
