Koforidua, Nov. 27, GNA - Vice-Chancellor of Koforidua Technical University (KTU) Professor David Kofi Essumang has said the university is focused on producing graduates who would employ themselves and create jobs for others.
He also said the university was working to help the community in which their campus was situated to resolve some of their challenges.
In collaboration with some partners from the United Kingdom, he added, the university was organising summer camps to equip auto mechanics in the New Juaben North and South municipalities with modern trends in the automobile industry.
The VC disclosed this during the 24th matriculation ceremony of the university in Koforidua where 3,390 students were formerly enrolled.
He said the school offered admissions to 4,694 in all.
Prof Essumang said 5,053 students applied to be admitted into the institution and explained that the admission was based on merit.
He warned that any student caught engaging in examination mal-practice would be summarily dismissed, and encouraged fresh students to carefully read the university’s regulation on examination malpractices.
Mrs Adjoa Van Vicker, the Director of Human Resource of Ghana Education Service (GES) said the country’s ability to stay competitive depended on its educational system.
She said that system should be able to churn out the best who could be proponents of good governance.
“Government is looking up to the Technical Universities to provide the technical support and the human resources to support the One District, One Factory initiative,” she added.
She said government was conscious of the role of TUs in national development and therefore committed to equipping them to play a more meaningful role in Ghana’s socio-economic development agenda.
