Ho, Nov. 27 GNA - Jubilee Christian Centre, Ho area has donated assorted items worth Gh¢2,500.00 to female inmates of the Ho Central Prisons.
The items, including bags of rice, oil, soap, toiletries and detergents to take care of the inmates and to supplement their feeding.
Reverend James Noble Tulasi, Senior Pastor in-charge of the Church said the donation formed part of the Church's social responsibility of providing for the needy and the vulnerable in society.
He said the Church would continue to provide support to the vulnerable based on the "pure word of God" in Matthew 25, saying “this is just the beginning of more good things to come."
He underscored the need for churches, Non-Governmental Organisations, and philanthropists to reach out to the vulnerable, especially prison inmates because government alone “cannot do it."
Rev. Tulasi said the Church as a social institution had a role to play in the lives of individuals in society for their holistic development and the socio-economic development of the country.
The Senior Pastor therefore charged the Church to bring hope to the citizenry, especially women and children.
He told the inmates that God did not create any man to suffer in life, but life itself required that men went through trials to succeed thus whatever happened "was for us to pick lessons and move on in life."
Rev. Tulasi urged the inmates to focus on "God the Comforter of all souls" and make Him their choice because He alone had power to change situations in man's life, saying “with Him all things are possible and your tomorrow shall be better than today."
The Church used the occasion to worship with the inmates, pray for them, the Prisons Authorities and the nation.
Assistant Superintendent of Prisons (ASP) Madam Stella Dowuona, the Ho Prisons Station Counsellor and Reception Officer, was grateful to the Church for the gesture.
She urged other faith based organisations to emulate the demonstration of love by the Church and reach out to the inmates.
Madam Dowuona said the Gh¢1.80.00 feeding rate of the inmates was not enough so it was important for faith-based organisations, NGOs and philanthropists to provide support to supplement government's efforts.
She urged family members of inmates to welcome and help them begin life afresh after serving their terms in prisons.
