Tease (E/R), Nov. 30, GNA - Nana Adu Parko II, the Krontihene of Pitiku in the Kwahu Afram Plains South, has pledged to support the Kwahu Afram Plains South District Assembly in the enforcement of bye laws on sanitation in his jurisdiction.
He said he will ensure that house owners add latrines to their building projects.
He expressed appreciation to Afram Plains Development Organisation (APDO), World Vision International and the District Assembly for helping to raise awareness on the need for every household to have its own toilet to help reduce the incidence of open defecation and reduce its related problems.
Nana Parko was speaking at the observation of World Toilet Day in the Eastern Region at Tease in the Kwahu Afram Plains South which was organized by the APDO, a non- governmental organization in collaboration with World Vision International and the Kwahu Afram Plains South District Assembly.
The programme which was organized under the theme, “Leave No One behind” was geared towards increasing awareness on the importance of owning and using latrine in order to improve sanitation and prevent diseases.
Mr Awudu Yakubu Omoro Modoc, the Chief Executive Officer of APDO called on landlords to provide toilet facility in their homes to help eliminate the increasing rate of open defecation in the area.
He said the APDO has been facilitating hygiene and sanitation promotion in Tease and its environs over the past 30 years and significant impact had been achieved through awareness creation.
Mr Modoc use the occasion to show the safe and affordable latrines that APDO has developed to enable the less privileged in society to also have access to toilet facility.
Mr Modoc therefore encouraged households to patronize them as a way of addressing open defecation in their communities.
Mr George Ofori, the Kwahu Afram Plains South District Chief Executive asked households to spearhead their sanitation promotion drive .
Prior to the ceremony, pupils from five schools in Tease held a procession through the principal streets of Tease holding placards advocating good and safe sanitation.
