Ho, Dec. 16, GNA - The Ghana Journalists Association - Volta (GJA Volta) football team beat their counterparts from the 66 Artillery Regiment (the Gunners) 2-1 in a friendly football match at the Volta Barracks in Ho.
The media lads bleeding from an earlier volleyball game defeat of two-straight win set the football match for revenge from the blast of the whistle by referee Gloria Morty for commencement of hostilities.
GJA Volta displayed a lot of inter-positional changes and precision ball control and got rewarded, when Bright Gbedze tapped-in from a goal-mouth melee situation to register the first goal.
Two quick substitutions by the Gunners (Volta Barracks) failed to purge the incessant onslaught of the Media team as Ned Manasseh gets a second in similar fashion to beat the Gunners goalie with a laser-guarded ferocious shot till referee Mortu brought the half to a halt.
The second half commenced with the Gunners demonstrating purposefulness to redeem the deficit with the defence of the Media team built around Paul Osafo foiling the onslaughts.
The Gunners redeemed a goal from a spot-kick, when referee Morty whistled for an infringement in the penalty box, which was expertly planted by Bombardier Patrick Ansah to beat goalie Foster Osei after several changes as if to overhaul the military team.
At a Soiree after the games, Lieutenant-Colonel Bernard B. Pantoah, Commanding Officer of the Regiment said the Military-Media fun games would be sustained to deepen the already cordial relationship existing between the two groups.
He believed that would erase negative perceptions about the military for better military-civil relationship.
Lt. Col. Pantoah described the encounter as historic, revealing and thrilling and salivating for the next fun games.
He said, soldiers and officers were civilians in uniform and underscored the need for good relationship with the public especially the media.
The Commanding Officer said the level of military brutalities was on the low side due to strategies to improve media-civil relationship for nation-building.
Mr Anthony Bells Kafui Kanyi, Chair of GJA-Volta said the games and interactions cemented the relationship between the media and the Military.
He was optimistic the partnership would yield dividends with the invitation of the military to join forces with the media to fight insanitary conditions in the Region, especially, the capital, Ho.
