Ernest Nuamah has been named Olympique Lyon’s Man of the Match after inspiring their 3-1 victory over AJ Auxerre in the French Ligue 1 on Friday night.
The Ghana international delivered an impressive performance at the Groupama Stadium, contributing a goal and an assist as Lyon continued their strong start to the new campaign.
Nuamah set up Felix Bacher to open the scoring in the 28th minute, rewarding Lyon’s early dominance after Loïs Openda had earlier seen a goal ruled out for offside following a VAR review.
The 22-year-old then got on the scoresheet himself eight minutes into the second half, finishing to restore Lyon’s two-goal advantage after Cameron Archer had pulled one back for Auxerre shortly before half-time.
His influential display earned him the Man of the Match accolade and further underlined his growing importance to Paulo Fonseca’s side.
Nuamah has returned strongly after missing a large part of last season following an ACL injury, with the winger gradually rediscovering his confidence and sharpness.
Friday’s performance also marked his first goal of the season, having featured in two matches so far.
The result strengthened Lyon’s position near the top of the Ligue 1 table, with the French giants moving into second place on seven points from three matches, two points behind leaders Monaco.
