What caused the riots and shooting incident
Prior to the sad incident, some Kotoko fans allegedly began a riot by throwing projectiles on the field after Berekum Chelsea took a 1-0 lead.
Angry supporters of the Porcupine Warriors were furious over decisions of the referee in their match against the visiting team which led to some throwing stones and sachet water directed at the match officials.
Some also tried to force a gate to the pitch open before security officials intervened to halt the action which could have spiraled out of control in the match. Calm was restored and the game continued until the end. However, outside the stadium after the game, the disturbances continued.
In a video footage sighted by GhanaWeb a man, clad in a Kotoko replica jersey, was in a pool of blood with onlookers shouting that he (the victim) had been shot by a police officer.
