Just as the Referee Bernard Dumfeh was occasionally looking at his watch to end the match at a time the two sides were tied to a 2-2 score line, Hearts won a free kick which was floated into the goal area of Bechem United.
Kodzi, who was hovering around the area, rose above his marker and nodded the ball powerfully into the net as goalkeeper Daniel Afadzwu, who had earlier created a barrier between Hearts and victory, was caught flat footed.
Moments after the goal, Referee Dumfe ended that match and the fans responded swiftly amid dancing and jubilation as they run towards the parking lot to congratulate the players on their hard fought victory.
Earlier, Referee Dumfeh incurred the wrath of the fans who adjudged his decisions as unprofessional and heaped insults on him.
The hooting and insults started in the 27th minute when he adjudged Mohammed Alhassan’s tacking on Hafiz Wontah Konkoni of Bechem United in the box to be a penalty which was easily converted by Prince Kwabena Adu.
As if he was balancing the cards for the two teams, Referee Dumfeh pointed to the spot of Bechem United two minutes later when he claimed that Augustine Randolf had handled the ball to give Kofi Kodzi opportunity to bring his side at par.
Hearts returned from recess with a venom to increase the tally through Mohammed Abdul Fatuwu whose flick in the box caught goalkeeper Daniel Afadzwu ball watching.
The goal brought out the best from Bechem United who started attacking in droves and got the equaliser through hardworking Konkoni, but just as the match was heading for a draw, Kofi Kodzi, who won the Player of the Match award, scored his second goal to offer his fans something to cheer about.
