The happy life, which has been phenomenon in the Ashaiman Municipality is dead following the partial lockdown, which enforcement began today, Monday March 30, 2020.
The markets are virtually empty with few vehicles plying the municipality.
Bikers dare not flouting the order of not carrying a pillion as the joint military and police personnel at the six check points mounted at vantage points in the municipality would not spare the rod on the offenders.
The check points have been mounted at Tulaku, Adjei Kojo, Down Town, Ashaiman Traffic, Katamanso and Toll Booth.
Each checkpoint has six uniformed personnel-four police and two military-and during The Chronicle’s tour of all these areas, the men on the ground said nobody has flouted the directives.
Chief Superintendent Samuel Amissah, the Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander, told The Chronicle that the directives are being enforced to the letter.
He added that the personnel are running a 12-hour shift duty at the checkpoints until the lockdown is over. “As far as I can tell you, Ashaiman has virtually been turned into a ghost town until the President unlocks Ashaiman,” Chief Superintendent Amissah told The Chronicle.
