A motor rider who thought he could outsmart the security personnel manning a checkpoint at Katamanso, under the Ashaiman Divisional Police Command, has been thrown into the cooler.
Chief Superintendent Samuel Amissah, Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander, told The Chronicle, Tuesday, via phone, that the biker, whose name he withheld, would be released in after days.
Chief Superintendent Amissah said the biker flouted the directive of the President, who said only one person should be seen riding a motorbike during these 14 days of lockdown in parts of the country.
Approaching the Katamanso checkpoint from afar, the biker was seen carrying a female pillion rider.
A few metres to the checkpoint, the pillion rider dismounted and after the rider had successfully gone through the snap check, Chief Superintendent Amissah said, he (biker) moved a short distance away where he beckoned to the pillion rider.
“All this while, our men were watching him. So after the men (security personnel) had allowed the lady to cross the checkpoint, a wireless message was sent to another team ahead who arrested the biker and lady, and impounded the motorbike taking it to the Ashaiman District Police Station,” the Commander narrated.
He said the pillion rider was later allowed to go home “but the rider and his bike will be under our custody until Thursday when we will release them.”
He warned bikers and other motorists not to be smart “because we are smarter on the ground.”
