The Ministry of Education (MoE), the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Free-To-Air channel for educational purpose.
The 24-hour dedicated channel would broadcast educational materials beginning April 3, 2020, for Senior High School (SHS) students, for the time being, to be followed by Junior High and Basic Schools.
According to the Director General of the GES, Prof Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, his outfit, under the agreement is to produce educational material for GBC to broadcast nationwide for students to learn while at home.
“So, we now have an arrangement with the GBC to broadcast nationwide on a 24-hour free-to-air dedicated channel,” he added that aside from the television broadcast the content will also be “made available on radio for wider reach to the students,” he told Graphic.
“In doing this, we have selected a number of master trainers and master teachers to support in delivery and production; we are working closely with our teachers to produce the content for both television and radio.”
Prof. Opoku-Amankwa added that the content was based on the new curriculum produced by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and content from other sources including scholastic in literacy and numeracy for the KG pupils.
