Mr. Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, Western North Regional Minister, has said the unexpected outbreak of the coronavirus has taught the country a lesson. The former Deputy Health Minister made this revelation when speaking in an exclusive interview with The Chronicle at Sefwi Wiawso, to climax the disinfection exercise in the region.
Three municipal and six District Assemblies with over 80 markets in the Western North Region embarked on the disinfection exercise on Monday. This follows similar exercises undertaken in the Greater Accra, Ashanti other Regions.
Mr. Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu told The Chronicle that the pandemic has exposed some loopholes in our health sector, suggesting that the culture of hand washing and sanitizing should be part of our daily lives especially in our schools.
‘It’s my aim to distribute Veronica buckets across the schools in the Western North Region to maintain the culture of hand washing,” he told The Chronicle ‘.
Touching on the suspected cases in the region, Mr Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu hinted that six suspected cases were recorded, but when their samples were sent to KCCR in Kumasi, “God being so good, they all tested negative.”
Nevertheless the Regional Minister has tasked immigration officers at the borders of the western North Region to be extra vigilant and that they should not allow foreigners to enter the Region.
He commended the security agencies in the region, traditional authorities, institutions, market women for cooperating with his outfit to fight against the Coronavirus disease.
