The Jaman North District has broken the enviable record held by the Bono Region as one of the four regions without a positive case of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The district, according to the latest Ghana Health Service (GHS) update, has recorded its first COVID-19 case, forcing the Bono Region to become the 13th out of the country’s 16 regions to record a case of the deadly Coronavirus.
The Bono East and Ahafo regions have still not recorded any Coronavirus case.
The announcement by radio stations of the first case threw the entire region, especially Sunyani, the capital, into a state of shock, as the authorities have over the past few months thrown in every resource to help prevent the virus from entering the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions.
In mid April, the Ghana Health Service dispelled rumours that some people had tested positive for the Coronavirus in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions. The service subsequently asked the public to discard that information.
The Bono Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service was emphatic at the time that not a single positive case of the disease had been recorded in any of the three regions, as the results of 24 out of 29 suspected cases all proved negative.
Meanwhile, a task-force set up by the Sunyani Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) to enforce the social and physical distancing protocols among traders in the Municipality has seized quantities of items and consumables from recalcitrant traders.
The traders failed to comply with directives from the Municipal Assembly to relocate to satellite markets created by the Assembly to control overcrowding at the central market.
During their usual monitoring and compliance assignment, the task force impounded quantities of second clothing, footwear, cosmetics and foodstuffs.
The MUSEC has also mounted checks to enforce the wearing of nose masks by drivers and passengers in the Sunyani township.
