The Ghana Armed Forces Command Staff College (GAFCSC) has received a donation from the Forestry Commission (FC) to support two health facilities – Family Health University College and Teshie Medical Research Centre – in the fight against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
The items include 20 infrared thermometers, nose masks, medical clothes and other personal protective equipment (PPE) needed to support these facilities.
According to the Commandant of the GAFCSC, Real Admiral Moses Kwadwo Beick-Baffour, these health facilities were in close proximity to the College, therefore, his wanting to extend a helping hand to them.
The Commandant, receiving the items on Friday at the FC premises in Accra, stated that since other public health facilities such as the 37 Military Hospital are quite a distance away from the College, it depends on these two facilities for its staff and medical students.
He was grateful for the support, adding that this was not the first time the Forestry Commission was supporting the GAFCSC.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Forestry Commission, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, known in public life as Sir John, on his part, said the GAFCSC placed the request to support these health facilities.
He said the Commission has extended such help to other health facilities such the Achimota and Legon hospitals in Accra, and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, and this was what motivated GAFCSC to request help from it.
Sir John added that the Commission granted the request because it has had a long and fruitful relation with the College, and was prepared to assist more, especially in this difficult time when Covid-19 is wrecking havoc on humanity.
“I think this should go a long way in the fight against the virus that we are confronted with,” he added.
