Mr Kingsley Aboagye Gyedu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai and Western North Regional Minister, is urging Ghanaians, especially those in the Western North Region, to desist stigmatising against people who have recovered from the novel Coronavirus disease.
The former Deputy Health Minister believes the continuous stigmatisation was the cause of the spread of the virus.
Currently, the region has recorded 60 confirmed cases, but he believes if the stigmatisation does not end, there could be a spike in the spread of the disease.
He made this revelation when he presented 10,000 locally made nose masks to the Bibiani- Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Security Council for onward distribution to vulnerable people in the municipality and some identifiable groups.
He said it was unfortunate the region has been struck by the disease, considering that it was a new one, saying “our confirmed cases are not coming down but rather going up.”
He is also calling on everybody and philanthropists who has the region at heart to come to their aide by providing them with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
He reminded the people in the region that the ban on the closure of drinking spots, as well as traditional market days, was still in force, and asked residents to comply with the directives instituted by the Regional Coordinating Council.
The Municipal Chief Executive Officer of Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Mr Alfred Amoah, commended the MP for his continuous contribution to the development of the municipality.
He added that the Municipal Security Council had outlined some strict measures and directives to deal with any recalcitrant persons who would want to go against the protocols put in place to fight the Coronavirus disease.
Dr. Francis Takyi, Municipal Health Director, who received the nose masks, commended the Minister for his continued support in the fight against the pandemic, and promised to distribute them to the targeted groups.
