The Accra branch of Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) International Church, with its headquarters in Pretoria, South Africa, has donated some food items on behalf of the Founder, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri (Major 1), to some residents of Fadama, whose properties were gutted by fire sometime in April.
The disaster happened in the wake of the partial lockdown in the Greater Accra Region.
Many of the fire victims at Fadama were rendered homeless, and going to their aid, the ECG Church donated 35 bags of rice, cartons of cooking oil, tins of tomato paste, toiletries and detergents, soft drinks, and hand sanitisers running into thousands of cedis.
To ensure equitable distribution of the items, the People’s Dialogue on Human Settlement selected members through community representative bodies and community coordinating committees.
The donation was, so far, the largest non-state donation received by the community since the fire outbreak.
The Resident Pastor, Apostle Enock Debon, said the gesture formed part of the mandate of the church to reach out to the needy.
“We are enjoined by God to help one another in time of trouble such as this. This is the reason our Prophet, Major 1, has requested us to make this donation to the affected victims to help alleviate the suffering they may be going through now.”
Apostle Enock encouraged other philanthropists and corporate bodies to pool their resources to reach out to the fire victims at Fadama.
Alhaji Rashid Fuseini, Dagomba Youth Chief for Greater Accra, receiving the items on behalf of the victims, said the donation was timely and a positive intervention.
“We are grateful for the gesture and pray for Allah’s blessings for Major 1, his pastor, and his members,” he said.
According to Alhaji Rashid Fuseni, the victims have been badly hit economically, putting many residents, especially children and women, into total despair.
He said many structures, including mosques in Fadama, were razed by the midnight fire, “and for now, the victims are hoping more help would come as they pick the pieces together to start life again.”
The Resident Pastor was accompanied by the Church Administrator, Mrs Gifty Mahama Biyira, and the Head of Beacon of Hope, Accra Chapter, Mrs Theresa Asare.
