RCS Ghana has sealed a deal with Eutelsat Communications to offer its Direct-to-home (DTH) method of receiving satellite television by means of signal transmitted from direct-broadcast satellite to Ghanaian viewers and beyond.
RCS, which currently has its footprints in over 40 countries in Africa, including some European and Asian countries bordering the continent, uses its Ku-Band capacity on Eutelsat 7B to broadcast its fast-growing free-to-air DTH bouquet.
RCS is a satellite provision company that offers Secured Digital (SD) and the only Higher Definition (HD) package on the market.
Most channels currently displaying on the Ghanaian television, except Super Sport English premiership, are in SD, a lower version of HD. Meanwhile, RCS’ SD solution is of quality and at half the price of what is being offered today on the market by other satellite providers.
The average cost of the SD currently ranges between $6,500 and $8,000, which RCS offers for $4,000.
In addition, households do not need to buy new decoders to be able to access channels on RCS platforms.
Hamza Tanko, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of RCS Ghana, told the media in Accra that there are over 500 TV channels being broadcast from 7° East, which has become the newest DTH hotspot for the Sub-Saharan region, with some of the fastest growing rates.
The 7° East neighbourhood is a key orbital position for regional TV channels.
Hamza Tanko commented: “We are delighted to partner with Eutelsat for the broadcast of the RCS DTH bouquet, delivering exceptional content to viewers in Ghana and beyond, and enabling the broadcast of any channel in Ghana in high quality and at compelling rates.
“The 7° East position is ideal to serve the Ghanaian market, and Eutelsat 7B offers consistent coverage and signal power all over Ghana, as well as complete Sub-Saharan coverage of over 40 African countries.
“We are proud to support RCS Ghana in rolling out this high quality content offering. This contract reflects the buoyancy of the Ghanaian broadcast market, the attraction of the unparalleled coverage of our 7° East neighbourhood, and Eutelsat’s expertise in the African market. We look forward to a long and fruitful collaboration,” Nicolas Baravalle, Regional Vice President, Sub Saharan Africa of Eutelsat, said.
Its parent company, Eutelsat in France, is the same company that hosts all DSTV bouquets.
RCS has the most affordable and quality services on the market today, giving customers an unprecedented two megabits of dedicated picture quality.
Eutelsat Communications is one of the world’s leading satellite operators, with a powerful fleet of satellites serving mission-critical government and non-governmental communication needs.
