The Nkosuohene of Suhum Kwahyia, a farming community in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region, Nana Boakye Yiadom II, has appealed to the government to bring development to the area to improve their living conditions.
According to Nana Yiadom II, Suhum Kwahyia, like any other under-developed community, lacks many social amenities such as good road network, clinic, and school among others, and it would be, therefore, most appreciated by the people if these challenges are well addressed.
He disclosed this to the Eastern File shortly after he registered about 300 children within the community and its environs for them to enjoy the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The gesture, according to Nkosuohene, was through the instrumentality of friends to enable the citizens have access to the NHIS free of charge in order for them to enjoy good health care.
According to him, he prioritised health among other things because a healthy body, coupled with a sound mind, would improve productivity, hence, accelerate socio-economic development.
He said residents in Suhum Kwahyia find it difficult to visit hospitals, because the majority of them don’t have NHIS cards, and other also cannot afford the exorbitant transportation fare because of the bad nature of the roads in the area.
To this end, Nana Boakye Yiadom II passionately called on the government, through the Municipal Assembly, to have a look at the roads in the area, since most of them are in deplorable states and that something needed to be done as a matter of urgency.
On self-medication, Nana Boakye Yiadom implored the residents to visit the hospital whenever they are sick to seek proper medical care, rather than to be treated in their various homes.
He also warmed the health practitioners to stop putting fear in the citizens, in terms of how they communicate with the patients, because good communicating can help heal the sick.
In addition, Nana Boakye Yiadom said he would continue to educate the community members to renew their NHIS cards regularly, for the sake of emergency situations.
