The Ashanti Regional police Command, taking a serious view of the modus operandi of some suspected armed robbers in the Kumasi metropolis are making strenuous efforts at arresting criminals in a bid to nip the rising rate of crime in the bud.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr. Godwin Ahianyo, said the move is in response to the recent method whereby the suspects often target people who have gone to withdraw cash from the Bank, by lurking around bank premises and use motor bikes to trail unsuspecting victims to rob them of their monies at the least opportunity.
He said the Command is, therefore, advising members of the public who go to withdraw huge sums of money from the banking institutions to take the necessary precautionary measures in order not to fall prey to the criminals.
The Command advised that people resort to electronic transfers and transactions where necessary and that institutions which carry huge sums of money must seek police assistance.
It further advised business men and business entities to be mindful of those they communicate with about banking transactions and also be alert and look out for those who follow them in cars or on motorbikes.
ASP Ahianyo in a statement to the media also advised motorists to stop at any filling station, police stations and any safe public place when they become suspicious of persons following them to avert danger.
The Command, however, cautioned that the police would be ruthless in dealing with persons arrested in connection with robbery and other crimes, and sent a strong warning to those behind these criminal activities to stop before they are rounded up to face the full rigours of the law.
The Command has assured law abiding people of the Ashanti Region that the police will continue to provide the best security to enable them go about their activities in peace and without fear.
In another development, Ernest Best Anane also reports that Mr Ernest Okai, Assemblyman for Asafo Electoral area has expressed worry over the bad nature of the road network in his electoral area.
According to him, the current situation of road networks pass as a threat to the lives of the constituents and commuters for which reason urgent attention must be paid to address it.
He said it has resulted in rampant vehicular traffic on the roads, especially from the VIP Terminals to Ahmadiyya Roundabout, which is one of the busiest stretches, but full of potholes.
As a result, drivers of VIP buses to and from the city take much time to ply the stretch.
The assemblyman noted that the situation is worse during the rainy season, rendering the stretch a death trap for both drivers and road users, as it floods at the least downpour, making it difficult for drivers to have easy passage.
He, therefore, called on city authorities and urban engineers to urgently complete the drains that were started some years back to improve upon the drainage system, as well as give the road network a face-lift to save lives and properties before losses are recorded.
