The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has cautioned political actors to embark on issue-based campaigns devoid of violence to ensure a peaceful atmosphere before, during and after the December 7, 2020 elections.
According to the Asantehene, politicians must not resort to violence in order to win elections, but rather inform the electorate about the provisions of their manifestos to enable them to make an informed choice.
The occasion was when the Asantehene gave audience to Professor Jane Naana Opoku- Agyemang, running mate of the opposition National Democratic Congress flagbearer, during a courtesy call on him at the start of a six-day tour of the Ashanti Region.
Otumfuo reminded politicians that Ghana does not belong to politicians and that they must, therefore, be circumspect with their utterances by focusing on what is in their manifestoes and what they are capable of delivering when given the mandate to govern the country.
Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang also reiterated the opposition commitment of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for peace before, during and after the December elections.
She disclosed that the NDC manifesto was a human-centred one, and, therefore, issue-based and which seeks the welfare and interest of every Ghanaian.
She expressed the view that when voted into government, the NDC will be guided by the manifesto to address the challenges being faced in the areas of good health care and quality education system meant to improve the standards of living of the electorates.
She explained that education was a right, and whether one likes it or not, one would need health care.
The NDC vice presidential candidate condemned violence, since nothing positive was ever achieved through violence.
