The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Kpone-Katamanso Constituency, Hopeson Yaovi Adorye, has promised to snatch the seat from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) this year.
This, he explained, he would do by handing Joseph Tettey, the NDC candidate the heaviest electoral blow in the history of politics in the constituency.
“I want to maintain that I will beat the NDC’s PC with a valid vote margin of 10,000. On top of that, I will win Kpone-Katamanso for Nana Addo and the NPP.
“The NPP is breaking that 28-year-long unproductive dominance of the failed and incompetent NDC in this constituency. The NPP and Hopeson Adorye are taking a giant move to change the politics of Kpone-Katamanso,” Hopeson Yaovi Adorye said at Kpone last Sunday, when he launched his campaign.
The launch was heavily graced by some national party executives, including Sammy Awuku, National Organiser, Kate Gyamfuah, National Women’s Organiser, Nana Boakye, National Youth Organiser, and taking his turn to address the electorate, Mr Adorye tore into the NDC for totally depriving its stronghold of infrastructural developments.
He said: “Kpone-Katamanso has been so loyal to the NDC, but they should point to just one outstanding infrastructure they have given us. Again, the Member of Parliament, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, should come and point out one soul he has found a permanent job for… none!
“We have every reason to describe the NDC as outright political failures, and they don’t deserve any place in Ghanaian politics.”
Enumerating what he said he had been able to do, even before he becomes the MP, Hopeson Adorye said he had been able to get the residents of Apollonia, the hometown of the NDC candidate, reconnected to the water supply by the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).
“The NDC PC’s hometown was disconnected by the GWCL for default in payment for over six years. His (NDC’s PC) own people complained to me, and after engaging the GWCL, who worked out the bill of about GH¢10, 000, which I was able to clear. Today, taps in his hometown are running through my efforts and as a result of the kindness of my government, the person who says he wants to contest me is enjoying free water supply.
“Even before he joined in the race, he had failed and his own people had written his testimonial.”
Additionally, Mr Hopeson said he had been able to lobby for the illumination of major roads in the constituency at night to increase visibility and security.
Furthermore, he said some deplorable roads in the constituency were receiving the needed facelift, “and I want to promise you that the main Kpone Barrier to Kpone township link road and Sackey road shall be asphalted before this year ends. I have lobbied for most of these roads to be fixed and we will all see the development soon.”
Another promise he tabled was to make Kpone, the constituency and traditional capital, a 24-hour busy commercial town. In view of this, he said he would work hard to get a motorable bridge over the Kpoeteh stream to connect Prampram in the East.
Presently, vehicles from Kpone to Prampram make a long detour through Dawhenya, and the daily long vehicular traffic between the Kpone Barrier to Dawhenya creates a lot of inconveniences to travellers who commute to and from Prampram to Kpone to do business.
“It is serious business when one is an MP, and for me, the time has come for us to punish the NDC on December 7. They have wasted our 28 years,” he claimed.
He charged the electorate to intensify the NPP’s good messages to Ghanaians through a house-to-house campaign in order to consolidate more votes for the party to retain power.
