The Asutifi North District Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) has been reactivated ahead of the December 7 polls to resolve conflicts and enhance the prevailing peace in the area before, during and after the polls.
The committee consists of Reverend Seth Owusu Dwamena (Chairman), Apostle Dr. Nkrumah Peprah (Vice Chairman), Reverend Smart Esong Gunda (Secretary), Nana Adasa-Nkrumah, Nana Osei Bonsu, Nana Kofo Tawia, DSP Paul Ankan (Police), and Reverend Robert Collins Annam (National Commission for Civic Education).
In an interview with the District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Reverend Collins Annam said the reactivation of the committee was necessary to enable them develop a comprehensive action plan towards ensuring the prompt resolution of matters arising during the general elections.
According to him, the committee would provide a platform for various stakeholders and political parties to engage in maintaining the peace and tranquility in the district, adding that it would also educate and monitor the activities of the parties and their supporters to ensure that their activities do not destabilise the district.
He called on political actors to ensure that their activities do not plunge the district into chaos, but rather help maintain the existing peace for development to continue thriving.
The Chairman of the Committee (IPDC), Rev. Seth Owusu Dwamena, said the members, who are competent, will institute measures to propel them execute their mandate, which is crucial.
“Support us to mastermind for peaceful elections with your collective ideas,” he told the residents.
Rev. Seth Dwamena, who is the Head of Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), Asutifi North District, hinted that the committee would keenly monitor radio discussions designed for the political parties to ensure that any person whose diction would foment violence is brought to book.
The Asutifi North and South District Police Commander, DSP Paul Ankan, also added that the police was ready and certain to help have peaceful elections before, during and after.
According to DSP Ankan, the police would not spare any person, irrespective of political party affiliation, who tries to foment trouble in the district, which is taunted by many as a violence-free zone.
The committee and political parties have agreed to have the parliamentary candidates’ debate for the electorate on 27th November at Ntotroso, at exactly 9am, with the President of Ntotroso Traditional Council, Barima Twereko Ampem, as the Chairman.
It was also agreed that the moderators for the debate will be the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary of the Asutifi North IPDC which is made of eight members.
