The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle Constituency in the Western Region, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, has connected seven communities in his district to the national grid, under the Rural Electrification Project (REP).
It was all joy when the MP pressed the knob to signify the connection to the seven communities.
The beneficiary communities include Ewerekokrom, Boahenekrom, Kwasikrom, Adjeikrom, Aidosuazo, Muntakwa and Santaso, located in the northern part of the Ellembelle District, a cocoa growing area.
The rural electrification project was started by Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah when he was the Minister for Energy, and subsequently Petroleum, in 2016.
Unfortunately, immediately the erstwhile government lost power, the contractor who was engaged for the project abandoned work midstream, despite its significance to rural development.
The Legislator then decided to revisit the project.
He consequently went in search for the contractor and personally paid the expenses involved for him to complete the project.
“I had to do this for the people,” he said in an interview with The Chronicle, while justifying why he had to use his personal resources to bankroll the power project.
According to the MP, other outstanding projects penciled down for execution in the constituency would definitely be tackled in his next administration after the December elections.
