The three Parliamentary aspirants contesting the 2020 elections in the Atwima-Kwanwoma Constituency of the Ashanti region have jointly pledged to work together for peace before, during and after the December 7, 2020 general elections.
They have also called on other parliamentary aspirants contesting the upcoming general elections to strive for peace during this period, in order to keep the country together as one piece after the elections.
Mr. Kofi Amankwa-Manu of the NPP, Madam Grace Agyemang Asamoah of the NDC and Mr. James Opoku Mensah of the UPP made the pledge at a debate for aspiring parliamentary candidates in the constituency, at Twedie, last week Friday.
Organised by the District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education(NCCE), the constituency debate sought to afford the contestants vying for the Atwima-Kwanwoma seat in parliament the opportunity to explain to their constituents their grasp of issues that affect development in the district and how their respective political parties intend to solve same when voted into power.
The aspirants debated on issues of unemployment, corruption, agriculture, social intervention for the aged and healthcare. They also explained their political parties’ positions on maternity leave for males and also their plans for the physically challenged in the constituency.
All the aspirants were unanimous on the granting of maternity leave to males to assist their wives during the nursing period and also suggested the extension of the maternity leave duration for women.
Superintendent of Police Mr.Odei-Quansah, the District Commander, commended the parliamentary candidates for their cooperation with the security agencies in the district during the voter’s registration exercise and hoped this would continue, so as to ensure peace throughout the periodin the district.
Nana KwakuOwusu-Ansah, the Managing Director of Donkor and Daniel Timbers (DDT) in Kumasi, who chaired the function, remarked that the composure and co-operation of the aspirants at the debate should reflect in the behaviour of their followers before, during and after the elections and also admonished them to advise their party members to desist from political violence.
