Nana Achamponmaah Nkansah Yiadom II, Queenmother of Agona in the Sekyere South District of the Ashanti Region, has donated Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) to some selected basic schools in her jurisdiction.
The beneficiary schools included Agona Jubilee School, Agona Methodist Primary, African Faith, Islamic School, Maranatha Complex School, Gospel International, Interbeton Primary, Presbyterian Primary and Seventh Day Adventist A and B Primary Schools.
The equipment distributed to the schools included child protective nose masks, tissue papers, hand sanitisers and Veronica buckets.
The Queenmother’s gesture, which comes under her Special Development Initiatives, is to complement efforts by the government and Ghana Education Service (GES) in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
She stated that with the appearance of the new variant, which puts the rate of infection very high, she felt obliged to contribute her quota in the protection of the children to grow and take the leadership mantle of the area in the near future.
She stated that the children are vulnerable and could not take the precaution measures on their own without the assistance of both parents and teachers, hence the donation to ensure their safety and entreated parents to partner teachers to help the children protect them from the virus.
Mr. George Adu Abrokwah, District Director of Education, who joined the Queenmother to present the items to the schools, expressed his profound gratitude to the Queenmother for the laudable initiative.
He stated that the initiative was timely and appropriate as every single school in the district needed PPEs to ensure the safety of their students against the coronavirus pandemic.
