The Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh, has commiserated with victims of a fire at Manhyia South and victims of a rainstorm that hit the Central Police Barracks in Kumasi on Wednesday February 17, this year.
While the barracks was hit by a wind storm which ripping off the roofs, fire had gutted a compound house and a pharmacy shop in the Manhyia South Constituency.
On Tuesday, the NADMO boss visited Kumasi, commiserated with the victims, and donated relief items comprising consumables and non-consumables to landlords and tenants, as well as the Regional Police Command.
Nana Agyemang Prempeh also made a similar donation to the victims of the fire outbreak at Manhyia South. He cautioned them against engaging non-professionals to do their wiring, as faulty wiring has been identified as one major cause of domestic fires.
The NADMO boss, accompanied by Mr. Frank Kwadwo Duodu, Kumasi Metro Director of NADMO, and staff from the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Regional NADMO office, presented 10 packets of roofing sheets, 40 bags of rice, five cartons of cooking oil, 50 blankets, 30 mosquito nets, 15 cartons of soap, as well as plastic buckets, basins, plates, cups and mosquito coils to the Regional Police Command.
He expressed worry that such a mishap should befall personnel of the Ghana Police Service, and said the donation was on behalf of the President and government to encourage them to give off their best in the protection of lives and properties.
He noted that NADMO was obliged to motivate victims of natural disaster, but cautioned them to be wary of the use of gas, and lighting fires indiscriminately, since the dry season was not yet over.
DCOP David Agyemang Agyem, Deputy Regional Police Commander, who received the items on behalf of the Command, commended NADMO for the swift response and the show of solidarity in this time of distress.
